Annecy, César-Winning Feature ‘Chicken For Linda!’ Will Get A Limited U.S. Theatrical Run Starting April 5

Fresh off a best animated feature win at France’s César Awards, Chicken For Linda! finally has a U.S. theatrical release date of April 5, 2024.

The endearing family feature is directed by Chiara Malta and Sébastien Laudenbach, a husband-and-wife team who have worked together on numerous live-action and animated films in the past. Malta is best known for her 2019 live-action feature Simple Women (co-wrote with Laudenbach). Laudenbach is a celebrated animation filmmaker who won an Annecy Jury Prize with his feature debut, The Girl Without Hands, in 2016.

Chicken for Linda! is produced by Dolce Vita Films and Miyu Productions with financing from France 3 Cinéma, Région Nouvelle Aquitaine, and Région Hauts-de-France. The film’s official synopsis reads:

Paulette feels guilty after unjustly punishing her daughter Linda and would do anything to make it up to her. Linda immediately asks for a meal of chicken with peppers, which reminds her of the dish her father used to make. But with a general strike closing stores all across town and pushing people into the streets, this innocent request quickly leads to an outrageous series of events that spirals out of control, as Paulette does everything she can to keep her promise and find a chicken for Linda.

Before winning the French Academy César award last weekend, the film enjoyed a tremendous festival run, premiering out of competition in the Acid section of last year’s Cannes Festival before heading to Annecy, where it won the Cristal for a feature film. The film also took top feature honors at the Manchester Animation Festival, and L.A.’s Animation is Film and screened in competition at Ottawa and Torino.

Reviews have praised the film’s vibrant and energetic visuals and the charming mother-daughter relationship at the heart of the story.

GKIDS will release Chicken for Linda! in New York City starting April 5 at the Angelika Film Center, in Los Angeles starting April 12 at the Laemmle Royal, and select additional theaters nationwide starting April 15 in its original French language.
