According To Director Josh Cooley, The New ‘Toy Story 4’ Trailer Doesn’t Show Too Much
Exactly a month before the fourth installment in the Toy Story franchise hits theaters, Disney/Pixar has dropped a second full trailer to introduce a new character who will aid in Forky’s rescue.
Previous Toy Story 4 teasers, as well as the first trailer, revealed three new toys: the aforementioned plastic-utensil-turned-playtime-friend Forky (voiced by Tony Hale), and two witty plush animals Ducky (Keegan-Michael Key) and Bunny (Jordan Peele). Now, the new trailer features a Canadian action figure named Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves), who will act as a brave ally to Woody in his quest to save the spork.
Adapting to the spoiler-free world we live in, Disney/Pixar appears to be taking a similar approach to this release as they did with Avengers: Endgame, for which trailers refrained from giving away too much information or revealing surprises. According to Toy Story 4 director Josh Cooley, per a tweet this morning, this second full trailer doesn’t show too much. “I can say you haven’t seen anything yet,” he wrote.
I am so pleased with the restraint that Disney marketing has shown with the Toy Story 4 trailers. That was the last one, and I love that I can say you haven’t seen anything yet. pic.twitter.com/6ACrwtXS1H

Anticipation is high for the latest installment in Pixar’s iconic franchise, but as Cartoon Brew has previously reported, Toy Story 4 has been far from a smooth sailing production. Not only has the release been pushed back multiple times, but also its original director John Lasseter stepped down from the role, even before sexual harassment allegations had surfaced against the franchise’s co-creator.
Additionally, Toy Story 4′s initial writing team and producer were replaced, and there have been statements from cast members about how 75% of the screenplay was thrown away and rewritten during the making of the film.
Toy Story 4 will be released in the U.S. on June 21, 2019.
