Animation Legend Ron Husband Helped Launch Louis Vuitton’s New Fall Fashion Line
Happy birthday to trailblazer Ron Husband, the first Black artist to reach the rank of animator at Disney, who celebrates his 74th birthday today.
Though Husband retired from Disney in 2013, after 38 years with the company, he has remained active in the arts, through teaching and writing the book Quick Sketching with Ron Husband, among other activities. But last month, he had an assignment like no other: introducing the launch of Louis Vuitton’s men’s fall/winter 2024 line.
The idea to get Husband involved with the iconic French fashion house came from Pharrell Williams, who became men’s creative director at Louis Vuitton last year. Williams tasked Husband to come up with his “vision of the first cowboy,” which in turn inspired the Western theme of the fall line. (Husband’s drawing also appears on one of the coats in the new collection.)
London-based director Bafic shot a video with Husband to introduce the show. Is this not the coolest appearance ever of an animator on film? If there’s anything cooler, I certainly can’t think of it.
