Lightbox 2023 Lightbox 2023

Pasadena’s Lightbox Expo will take place October 27-29 this year, featuring over 200 panels, roundtables, and demos, and more than 600 artists attendees.

Lightbox Expo was co-founded in 2019 by character designer, illustrator, and Expo creative director Bobby Chiu and Jim Demonakos, one of the directors of the documentary Mike Mignola: Drawing Monsters. Since then, the event has evolved into one of the year’s biggest West Coast meet-ups for industry professionals and students.

Of this year’s event, Chiu said:

We’re excited to present educational panels throughout the show that allow new and upcoming artists to hear about pathways into the industry. In addition, much of the programming allows artists of all levels to learn new tips, tricks and techniques to up their art game, making it the perfect place to come learn no matter where you are in your artistic journey.

Anyone planning to attend this year’s event should know that Lightbox has implemented a new ticketing system. The details of the system are outlined in an illustrated Instagram post.

Below, we’ve highlighted a few of this year’s standout presentations. The full 2023 program can be found on the Lightbox website.
