Watch The New Pixelatl Festival Signal Film By Humberto Cervera And Guadalajara’s Hobby Studio (Exclusive)
The signal film trailer marking the thirteenth edition of Pixelatl, Mexico’s leading animation festival and market, debuts online today. Cartoon Brew is delighted to exclusively premiere it below.
The colorful and evocative stop-motion piece, titled “Face Your Fears,” was conceived and directed by Humberto Cervera, a scriptwriter and former Cartoon Network Latin America executive, in partnership with Guadalajara-based Hobby Animation, which produced the film. Concept art and look development was done by Mexican studio Ronin, and music/audio production was handled by Bakemono.
The film follows a group of disgruntled townspeople who are chasing a heart through the village, until they ultimately recognize that their discontent is being driven by fear and that they have the power to change by embracing love. Cartoon Brew will publish a more detailed look at the production in the weeks to come.
This year’s Pixelatl event is set to take place in Guadalajara from September 3-7. The event has long been recognized for connecting the burgeoning Mexican and Latin American animation industries with their North American and European counterparts.
The event, which also encompasses comics and video game production, offers a stellar line-up of guest speakers every edition, and this year will be no different, with speakers that include Ian Jones-Quartey ( OK K.O.! Let’s Be Heroes), Magda Osisnka (Star Wars: Visions director), Jorge Gutierrez (Maya and the Three), Natasha Kline (Primos), Sara Varon (creator of the original Robot Dreams graphic novel), Sanjay Patel (Ghee Happy), and concept artist Donglu Yu.
