Tonight in Brooklyn: 1st Tromanimation Film Festival
Tonight in Brooklyn, cult indie film production company Troma Entertainment (The Toxic Avenger) will present their first-ever animation film festival.
The Tromanimation Film Festival promises hours of indie animation, plus an appearance by online animator Ukinojoe (aka Jonathan Gran), and Skype call-ins from Courage the Cowardly Dog creator John Dilworth and The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy creator Maxwell Atoms.
Troma is no stranger to film festivals, annually putting on TromaDance, billed as “the first and only film festival of the people, for the people, and by the people.” Tromanimation festival producer John Brennan told Cartoon Brew that the company was inspired to create an animation event because “year after year we receive an incredible number of animated submissions for the Tromadance Film Festival.”
The idea for a full-on animation event was pitched by Troma volunteer Gary Trimarchi. “[Troma co-founder] Lloyd Kaufman and I thought it was a great idea,” Brennan told me. “We started helping Gary organize, [and] Gary put together an incredible line up of guests.” Troma hopes that the event can become a regular occurrence, and run as a sister festival to the established Tromadance.
Tonight’s event is free admission and takes place from 6-11pm at Lucky 13 Saloon (644 Sackett St., Brooklyn, NY). More than 150 people have indicated that they plan to attend on the event’s Facebook invite. If you’re not in New York City, you can also watch a live-stream of the proceedings; to watch online, keep tuned to @tromateamvideo.
The festival will be followed by an after-party from 11pm-3am at the same location. Details below:
