Top Story: ‘The Wild Robot’ And ‘Arcane’ Lead 52nd Annie Award Nominations

Tomorrow afternoon at CalArts, the experimental animation program’s “The Animated Woman” class, led by faculty Erica Larsen-Dockray, will present the school’s first-ever symposium on gender bias in animation.

Entitled “The Animated Woman: Symposium on Gender Bias in Animation,” students will present their research and responses to the topic of how women are designed and presented in animation. The event will use different approaches to the topic including trivia games, audible and visual comparisons, performance, animated celebratory screenings, interactive displays, investigations of animation education resources, public service announcements, and how-to guides.

Larsen-Dockray will also discuss the processes and findings of the course, and CalArts Provost Jeannene Przyblyski will deliver the symposium introduction.

The 3-hour event begins at 4pm in the Bijou Auditorium on the CalArts campus located at 24700 McBean Parkway, Valencia, California. Admission is free. For more information visit the CalArts website.
