The Ottawa International Animation Festival (OIAF), North America’s largest and oldest animation festival, has announced a line-up of high-profile industry creators for its Animation Exposé event on Saturday, September 28.

The day-long event at the National Arts Centre will “showcase fresh voices who are changing the face of the animation industry,” according to OIAF director of industry programming Azarin Sohrabkhani.

The speakers at this year’s event are:

  • Steven Universe creator Rebecca Sugar, who will also introduce a special screening of Steven Universe: The Movie the day before.
  • Filmmakers Matthew A. Cherry and Bruce Smith will discuss their new Sony Pictures Animation short Hair Love, which is opening in North America in front of The Angry Birds Movie 2.
  • Pete Browngardt, executive producer of the new Looney Tunes revival, will present a behind-the-scenes look at the production process of the new Warner Bros. shorts.
  • Canadian natives Trent Correy (supervising animator, Frozen 2; animator, Moana, Zootopia) and Mitch Counsell (character technical director, Moana, Zootopia, Big Hero 6) will discuss their new short films, Drop and Fetch respectively, created as part of Disney Animation’s Short Circuit program.
  • Creative director Brandon James Scott and the team of art directors and designers at Toronto’s Guru Studio will present an in-depth exploration of the design process for the Netflix series True and the Rainbow Kingdom.
