John Musker, Joanna Quinn, Glen Keane, And Imogen Sutton Are Headlining Kilkenny Animated
Kilkenny Animated Festival, set to take place October 4-6 in Kilkenny, Ireland, has announced its programming line-up for its latest edition. The boutique festival punches above its weight due to it being located in the hometown of iconic Irish animation studio Cartoon Saloon, and this year’s guests are quite an illustrious bunch.
Disney legends John Musker and Glen Keane will both attend to discuss their work: Musker will talk about the making of his short I’m Hip, while Keane will present an animaiton masterclass.
Other high-profile guests include British filmmaker Joanna Quinn, who was most recently nominated for an Oscar for her film Affairs of the Art, and producer/author Imogen Sutton. Quinn and her producer, Les Mills, will discuss the importance of observational drawing, while Sutton will present Adventures in Animation, the new autobiography of her late husband, Richard Williams, which she completed after his passing.
All four of these guests will additionally participate in a panel, while other panels and workshops will examine editing, AI in animation, and comic book inking. Cartoon Saloon will hold screenings of their films and studio tours, as well as host sketch tours around the city with its sister studio Lighthouse.
A new series of events, Pathways to Animation, is specifically aimed at students and recent graduates. Second-level students can partake in workshops from education providers across Ireland to learn about techniques taught at third-level. Those in a third-level course and recent graduates can take part in portfolio reviews and workshops for industry newcomers.
