The VIEW Conference in Turin, Italy, continues to expand its impressive list of speakers for the event’s 19th edition, taking place October 22-26.

Two key figures from ILM are now confirmed to attend the conference this year: Dennis Muren and David Vickery.

A keynote will be delivered by Muren, an eight-time Academy Award winner who is currently senior visual effects supervisor and creative director of Industrial Light & Magic.

“I can’t think of anyone more highly respected in the visual effects industry than Dennis Muren,” conference director Dr. Maria Elena Gutierrez told Carton Brew. “We’re so delighted that he will be joining us at the VIEW Conference. I know his keynote will open our attendees’ eyes and minds.”

Muren’s manifold contributions to the field of vfx stretch back forty years, and include such seminal works as the original Star Wars trilogy, E.T., Indiana Jones & the Temple of Doom, Inner Space, The Abyss, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, and Jurassic Park.

As creative director of Industrial Light & Magic, Muren is a key member of the company’s leadership team and collaborates with all of ILM’s supervisors on each film that the company contributes to.

David Vickery.

One of those supervisors that Muren works with is David Vickery, who will present about the work on Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom and discuss the approach and execution of the visual effects work with a particular focus on the seamless blend of state-of-the-art digital and practical creature effects.

Prior to joining ILM in 2015, Vickery was a 13-year veteran of Double Negative in London, where he was vfx supervisor on films such as Mission: Impossible–Rogue Nation, Sherlock Holmes, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Parts 1 and 2, Fast & Furious 6, and Jupiter Ascending.

Muren and Vickery join an already impressive group of industry figures who have been confirmed for the 2018 edition of VIEW, including film composer Hans Zimmer, Solo: A Star Wars Story overall vfx supervisor Rob Bredow, The Breadwinner director Nora Twomey, Paramount Pictures Animation president Mireille Soria, Google Spotlight Stories creative director Jan Pinkava, Hotel Transylvania 3 vfx supervisor Mike Ford, SideFX CEO/president Kim Davidson, and Weta Digital vfx supervisor Matt Aitken, among dozens of others guests.
