Upcoming Brooklyn Animation Screenings: Dirty Morning Cartoons and The Dumbest Sh!t I Ever Saw
Animation Block Party may be over now, but the ever-expanding Brooklyn animation scene is keeping the party alive with two unique animation screenings in the month of August.
First, tonight at Brooklyn Fire Proof (119 Ingraham St., in the alley) in Bushwick, Dirty Morning Cartoons will present animated shorts by Justin Roiland, Sick Animation, Leah Shore, Nick DenBoer, Felix Colgrave, Jeanette Bonds, Jaime R., Ian Miller, Sean Glaze, Cool 3D World, Signe Baumane, Lena Greene, Rob Yulfo, Sven Stoffels, Preston Spurlock, Joey Altadonna, and Pat Kain. The program is curated by animation startup Cartuna, which is a producer on Augenblick Studios’ upcoming feature The Adventures of Drunky.
The FREE screening will be preceded by a ‘zine fest’ featuring work by the Dirty Morning Cartoon animators, as well as local illustrators and artists. Doors open at 7pm, followed by the screening at 9:30. For more details, see the Facebook invite.
Then, on August 18, The Dumbest Sh!t I Ever Saw screening will take place at The Living Gallery BK (1094 Broadway), also in Bushwick.
Describes as an “animation anti-festival,” the show (which happened once before in 2011) encourages filmmakers to make dumb, short pieces of animation. This year’s edition is organized by Joy Buran, Noelle Melody, and Stephen Sues. They say:
Sometimes it’s tough motivating yourself to work on your Big Important Film after doing commercial work all day. This screening is meant to give filmmakers a nudge to just make something silly and less intimidating.
The deadline for submissions is August 11. For details on how to submit your film, and other event details, see the Facebook invite.
