Tyler Perry and Bento Box Produce Direct-to-Video ‘Madea’ Feature
Actor Tyler Perry, whose drag performances as an elderly African-American woman named Madea have resulted in inexplicable live-action success, has transferred his act to animation with the dreadful-looking Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Tough Love. The 64-minute film will be released by Lionsgate Entertainment onto Digital HD on January 13, 2015 and on DVD and On Demand on January 20th. According to the plot summary:
After a hilarious run-in with the law, Madea is sentenced to community service. Determined to do good for the ‘hood, Madea enlists Aunt Bam and Uncle Joe to try and save the Moms Mabley Youth Center from being shut down. With her irresistible sass and wisdom, Madea rallies the local kids to make a stand-and proves that behind her tough exterior is a whole lot of love!
It’s directed by Bento Box’s Frank Marino, who also supervised comedian Jeff Dunham’s equally execrable direct-to-video project Achmed Saves America.
