GKIDS Bringing ‘The End Of Evangelion’ To U.S. Theaters For The First Time In March
Specialist distributor GKIDS has announced two nights of special event screenings for the iconic 1997 animated feature The End of Evangelion on March 17 and 20.
The End of Evangelion was created as an alternative ending to the Neon Genesis Evangelion tv series, remaking the show’s final two episodes.
GKIDS’s synopsis for the film reads:
SEELE plans an attack on NERV after failing to create a man-made Third Impact. After reaffirming both her own and her mother’s existence in a state of despair, Asuka returns and begins the counterattack. However, new enemies descend from the heavens. Meanwhile, Shinji witnesses the horrifying wreckage of Asuka’s EVA-02 while piloting EVA-01. Mass production models surround EVA-01 and perform a solemn ceremony. What does it mean to complete a human heart?
Neon Genesis Evangelion was created by Hideaki Anno and animated by Tokyo-based studio Tatsunoko. The series aired on TV Tokyo from October 1995 to March 1996 and is widely considered to be one of the most important anime series of all time.
In 2022, GKIDS released the original 26-episode series and the two corresponding films, Evangelion: Death (True)2 and The End of Evangelion, on Blu-ray and digital for the first time in the U.S. The distributor also released the final installment in the franchise’s theatrical “Rebuild” editions, Evangelion: 3.0+1.11 Thrice Upon A Time.
