‘Baby Shark’ Feature Coming To Theaters Next Month
While marquee animated features are being rerouted from theaters to streaming, one property is swimming against the current. A feature inspired by “Baby Shark,” the viral Youtube earworm, is coming to cinemas.
Pinkfong and Baby Shark’s Space Adventure is getting a limited theatrical run in North America, on October 9 and 10. The family film, which currently streams exclusively on Netflix, will follow the titular shark and pink fox on an interplanetary journey punctuated by songs.
The feature will be released by Smartstudy (whose kids’ educational brand Pinkfong produced the “Baby Shark” video) in partnership with Iconic Events Releasing. It will be accompanied by an exclusive short starring the same characters.
Pinkfong’s original “Baby Shark Dance” video has been viewed 9.3 billion times, which makes it the most-viewed video on Youtube, period. According to Cartoon Brew’s research, the Pinkfong Baby Shark channel is the second-most-subscribed animation channel on Youtube, with 51.9 million subscribers.
Bin Jeong, CEO of Pinkfong USA, said in a statement: “We couldn’t be more thrilled to bring Pinkfong and Baby Shark’s Space Adventure to theaters, providing our fans with a fresh and exciting way to enjoy the cinematic special with family and friends. The theater experience brings a new level of excitement and interaction that truly lends itself well to this song-filled adventure.”
