Bob Iger's masterclass Bob Iger's masterclass

Ever wanted to know what it’s like to run the most high-profile entertainment company in the world — or, more to the point, what it takes to get there? If so, Masterclass.com has the product for you. The online education platform, which hosts paid-for video lessons with celebrities and leading professionals, is bringing on Bob Iger, chairman and CEO of The Walt Disney Company.

Billed as Iger’s “first-ever online class,” the series of videos will impart key lessons the executive has learned throughout his 14-year tenure at the company. As the blurb puts it: “From managing risk to leading with courage and optimism, Disney CEO Bob Iger teaches you the strategies behind his leadership.”

The class is broken down into 13 pre-recorded lessons (accompanied by a downloadable workbook). Each one focuses on a different aspect of Iger’s career or philosophy, covering such subjects as day-to-day time management, the art of negotiation, the launch of the Disney+ streaming service, and his M&A strategy that has resulted in Disney’s ownership of Pixar, Marvel, and 21st Century Fox.

These acquisitions — and, lately, the pivot to streaming — have largely defined Iger’s tenure as CEO, which began when he succeeded Michael Eisner in 2005. Those who want to get Iger’s insights into these and other matters for cheaper could buy his recent autobiography, Ride of a Lifetime — or merely read this New York Times profile, which was published around the book’s release.

Masterclass has featured a wide range of lecturers from the arts and entertainment, including novelist Neil Gaiman, filmmaker David Lynch, and composer Danny Elfman. A class costs $90, and an annual all-access subscription comes in at $180.
