Top Story: Despite A Large Number Of Detractors, Animation Guild Members Ratify New Contract

Aaron Springer’s Billy Dilley’s Super-Duper Subterranean Summer has a premiere date on Disney XD.

Disney has also revealed the opening titles for the show:

Billy Dilley will launch with multiple airings on Saturday, June 3 (7:00 am, 11:00 am, 2:00 pm, 5:00 pm, 8:30 pm ET) and new episodes will continue to roll out daily through Thursday, June 15.

Starting June 3, the first 10 episodes of the series will also be available on the Disney XD app and Disney XD VOD platforms.

The series follows the adventures of Billy (voiced by Springer himself) and his classmates Zeke (Tom Kenny) and Marsha (Catherine Wayne), whose summer break takes an unexpected turn when they get stuck in a magical world beneath the Earth’s surface, and must repair Billy’s science fair project, The Cheeserator, to retain to the surface.

Springer’s past credits include Spongebob Squarepants, Samurai Jack, Wander Over Yonder, and Disney’s Mickey Mouse shorts, but as we’ve pointed out before, he’s also known for his projects that never made it past the pilot stage, such as Adult Swim’s Korgoth of Barbaria and Cartoon Network’s Periwinkle Around the World.

Springer is (in my opinion) one of the best pure cartoonists in the L.A. industry, but he’s also developed a reputation over the years as someone who can do other things like write and direct. It will interesting to see how much of his vision stays intact within the constraints of the Disney tv pipeline, but however it turns out, this is one kids’ show that I’m looking forward to checking out.
