Top Story: ‘The Wild Robot’ And ‘Arcane’ Lead 52nd Annie Award Nominations

This new cartoon has a bit of everything that makes Disney Disney: adorable fuzzy cartoon animals, a tug at the heartstrings, some light comedy, and a hard sell to consumers. It’s also the best Disney short we’ve seen this year, mostly because it manages to compact the Disney ‘magic’ into a bearable 75 seconds.

Set to the Broadway tune “The Impossible Dream (The Quest)” from the musical Man of La Mancha, “The Little Duck” tells the story of a duckling who aspires to be like his hero Donald Duck. According to Disney’s official description of the campaign, “This epic saga, blending together love, humor and courage, is aimed at all those — big and small — who grew up with a Disney idol whom they still wish one day to meet. At Disneyland Paris, magic is for real.”

Update: The agency behind “The Little Duck” was BETC Paris, and the animation was produced by Paris-based cg/vfx shop Unit Image.
