‘Jump Cut’ Is A Mind-Blowing Collage Music Video By Winston Hacking
A recent winner of the best commissioned film at the 2024 Ottawa International Animation Festival, Winston Hacking’s mind-blowing collage music video, “Jumpcut,” for the Canadian indie band Corridor, is not to be missed.
If you don’t know the work of collage/stop-motion animator extraordinaire Winston Hacking, buckle up and settle in. In his latest work, he teams up with stop-motion animator Philippe Tardif to delve into the chaotic landscape of mass media.
“Jump Cut” features a rhythmic collision of ephemeral videos and images that seamlessly morph into one another, enhancing the title song rather than merely complementing it. While Hacking employs some AI assistance, the film’s true power lies in its reflection of the overwhelming nature of technology and the barrage of mass media imagery that inundates our senses, leaving little time for contemplation.
Hacking is an award-winning Canadian filmmaker and designer best known for his award-winning short, Erodium Thunk (2018) along with his acclaimed music videos for Flying Lotus, Run The Jewels, Washed Out and Andy Shauf.
