Two major names in international kids’ tv distribution are consolidating, with Cake currently in advanced negotiations to acquire competitor Jetpack. Both companies are based in London.

The terms of the deal have not been finalized yet.

Cake is the older of the two companies. It not only distributes children’s content, but develops, finances, and produces shows.

The company distributes 1,600 half-hours of animation and live-action content. It has been involved in shows such as Angry Birds: Summer Madness (Netflix), Supa Team 4 (Netflix) with Triggerfish Animation, Angelo Rules (France Télévisions, Canal+ and Super RTL) with TeamTO; Space Chickens in Space (Disney EMEA) with Anima Estudios, and Pablo (CBeebies) with Paper Owl.

Jetpack, launched by Dominic Gardiner in 2014, offers over 1,900 hours of content. Its library includes dozens of animated series, such as Becca’s Bunch, Chugginton, Clangers, Claymotions, Alice’s Diary, and Viking Skool.

“Since Jetpack launched, they have always been a competitor who we have admired,” Cake CEO Ed Galton said in a statement. “Our combined operations will deliver an even better kids and family distribution solution for this market.”
