Major Netflix Animation Leak Traced Back To Burbank Post-Production Company
A massive leak of upcoming Netflix animated series has been traced back to Burbank-headquartered Iyuno, a post-production company that specializes in media localization, according to reports in multiple Hollywood trades.
“One of our post-production partners has been compromised and footage from several of our titles has unfortunately leaked online,” Netflix said in a statement. “Our team is aggressively taking action to have it taken down.”
Both clips and full episodes, with watermarks and timestamps, were leaked this week from numerous upcoming Netflix titles including Terminator Zero, Jentry Chau vs. The Underworld, Dan Da Dan, Ranma ½, and the second season of Arcane.
Also leaked were upcoming Netflix features like Skydance Animation’s Spellbound and Paramount Animation’s Plankton: The Movie. Other distributors were also affected by the leak. The season three premiere of Re: Zero, which is scheduled to debut on Crunchyroll, and the first three episodes of Dan Da Dan, which GKIDS is planning to release theatrically, have also popped up online.
Iyuno, the localization company where the leak started, is identified by Netflix as a “Preferred Fulfillment Partner.” The company, which has 67 offices in 34 countries, has subtitled 35 million minutes of content and dubbed 10 million minutes in over 100 languages.
The company released the following statement today acknowledging the situation:
Iyuno is aware of a recent security issue, involving unauthorized access to confidential content. Protecting our clients’ confidentiality and ensuring the security of their content is our highest priority. We are actively investigating this security breach to mitigate any potential risks and identify the responsible parties. When there are material changes or information we will make further statements.
