Flying Bark Productions Is Opening An L.A. Studio In 2020
Sydney, Australia-based Flying Bark Productions, a subsidiary of Studio 100 Group, will open a new Los Angeles branch in early 2020, as well as significantly expand its operations in Australia.
Here are details of what’s happening:
-
Twenty-year animation vet Ian Graham has been appointed chief creative director of the new LA studio. His credits include storyboarding on Spongebob Squarepants, Family Guy, and Invader Zim, directing on The Legend of Korra and Pig Goat Banana Cricket, and serving as supervising producer and showrunner on Nick’s upcoming Glitch Techs.
- Graham will focus on developing the creative leadership of the studio and long-term content strategy. He will spearhead a development slate for original production and will help supervise pre-production teams for both original and client service work. He will also work with Flying Bark’s cg and 2d teams in Sydney.
- Barbara Stephen, CEO Flying Bark Productions, says, “We share Ian’s passion for producing quality animation and working with a diverse mix of creative talent and highly value his experience and commitment to the industry. Flying Bark continues to grow with full-service teams specializing in hand-drawn, traditional 2d animation and cgi production in Sydney and the new LA studio will help cater to an increased demand for high-end animation services.”
- In addition to the L.A. studio, Flying Bark’s Australian head office in Sydney is currently in the process of expansion with a relocation to new premises in Alexandria. The new “creator driven” space, which will be able to support a crew of 400 workers, is due for completion by mid-2020.
- Flying Bark productions include the series The Wild Adventures of Blinky Bill, Tashi, Vic the Viking, and The Woodlies, and the Maya the Bee theatrical franchise.
