Fox Entertainment is sending strong signals that animation will play an important role in its future. A month after announcing its acquisition of production studio Bento Box Entertainment, the company has named Daniel Weidenfeld as its new senior vice president for animation.

Weidenfeld will be responsible for overseeing all animated production and development for Fox and third-party platforms. He will report directly to Michael Thorn, president of entertainment at Fox Entertainment.

Weidenfeld has a long history as a writer and producer on Adult Swim series, including Lazor Wulf, Brad Neely’s Harg Nallin’ Sclopio Peepio, China, IL, and The Eric Andre Show. Other credits include TBS’s The Pound Hole and Netflix’s Trigger Warning with Killer Mike. From 2008 to 2010, he was vice president of contentdevelopment, tv & new media at Generate, LLC.

Fox Entertainment is part of Rupert Murdoch’s Fox Corporation, the new spinoff of the parts of 21st Century Fox that were not acquired by the Walt Disney Company. Fox Corp’s other key businesses include Fox News Channel, Fox Sports channels, and 28 local Fox channels.
