‘Puss In Boots: The Last Wish’ Passes $100M At Domestic Box Office After Phenomenal Fourth Weekend

Despite being available to rent now, “Puss in Boots” pulled in more money at the U.S. box office in its fourth weekend than the prior weekend.

The company pulled in nearly a quarter-billion dollars at the Japanese box office, surpassing its previous record set in 2009.

Universal’s other two winners in 2022 were “Minions: The Rise of Gru” and “The Bad Guys.”

And ‘Strange World’ inched closer to ‘Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero’ in total NA box office.

Both films are also being hurt by a down Chinese box office as ‘Strange World’ goes out with a whimper.

Despite the largest theatrical release in Japanese history, ‘Avatar’ sold fewer tickets than either film.

The Dreamworks feature only opened in 24 markets, with most major territories set to premiere the film around Christmas.

Disney’s latest feature was unable to recover at the box office in its sophomore frame.

‘Strange World’s opening weekend haul is the worst for a Disney animated feature since ‘The Emperor’s New Grove’ in 2000.

A November release could hurt ‘Suzume’ long-term. Shinkai’s previous films opened in summer, historically a more favorable window.

‘Film Red’ is now the ninth-highest-grossing anime film of all time globally, passing ‘Princess Mononoke’s total of $170 million.

‘One Piece Film Red,’ the 11th highest-grossing film in Japanese box office history, has its sights set on the North American box office.

The strong performance of these films comes amidst a historic dry spell of major animated releases in theaters.

Meanwhile, ‘Minions’ has topped the global box office yet again.

Predictions have the film leading the weekend box office and pulling in as much as $16 million.

‘One Piece Film: Red,’ coming to North American cinemas this fall, posted the second-best two-day opening in Japanese history.

As theatrical runs wind down in many key territories, ‘The Rise of Gru’ will get a second wind with Chinese and Italian releases.
