Top Story: ‘The Wild Robot’ And ‘Arcane’ Lead 52nd Annie Award Nominations

Stairs (1968), dir. Stefan Schabenbeck

The Polish Cultural Institute New York has partnered with UNSOUND Festival, BAMcinématek, Detroit Institute of Arts and The Cinefamily to present the U.S. tour of Polish Animation with Live Music By Baaba, with dates announced in New York, Detroit and Los Angeles.

Warsaw electronic jazz group Baaba will perform live to an exquisite selection of Polish classic animated films. The program includes Academy Award-winner Zbigniew Rybczynski’s New Book, auteur Walerian Borowczyk’s Banner of Youth, Miroslaw Kijowicz’s Cages (Grand Prix at Annency, 1967), as well as the visually innovative Stairs by Stanislaw Schabenbeck and Chair by Daniel Szczechura. This compilation offers a captivating look into the metaphorical, playful and stylistically rich world of “The Polish School of Animation” — one of the most refreshing and interesting phenomena of Polish postwar culture.
