TORONTO/NEW YORK CITY (October 1, 2012) – Breakthrough Entertainment and Little Airplane Productions have joined forces for the launch of The Adventures of Napkin Man™, an original series of 13 half-hours (26 x 11:00 minutes) that combines animation and live action designed to help preschoolers address everyday challenges and concerns through nurturing main characters, age appropriate comedy and catchy original music. Breakthrough Entertainment will produce the new preschool series, and recently launched Canadian animation studio Little Tugboat Productions, led by industry veteran Brenda Nietupski, will render animation services on the series.
First broadcaster to license The Adventures of Napkin Man is Canadian public broadcaster CBC, which developed the innovative series with Breakthrough, and will debut it in September 2013. Breakthrough Entertainment will introduce the series to the entire international market at MIPCOM 2012. Little Airplane Productions, which created the concept for The Adventures of Napkin Man, will handle US distribution. The series was created by Little Airplane’s Tone Thyne and Josh Selig.
The Adventures of Napkin Man tells the story of Mister Anthony, a preschool teacher who draws a superhero named Napkin Man for his students. Napkin Man comes to life in an animated world and helps young children better understand and manage their feelings.
“We were immediately taken by Little Airplane’s concept for The Adventures of Napkin Man as a series that preschoolers will instantly relate to and want to emulate. It’s the perfect television vehicle to help ease children’s everyday concerns and a series that will also win the appreciation of parents and educators. We are delighted to have developed, and to launch, this extraordinary preschool series in Canada with CBC and salute Kim Wilson for making The Adventures of Napkin Man an important part of the network’s 2013 children’s line-up,” said Ira Levy, Managing Partner of Breakthrough E
Co-creator Tone Thyne said, “Josh and I are delighted The Adventures of Napkin Man is now in the caring hands of our friends at CBC and Breakthrough Entertainment. We truly believe preschoolers’ newest hero will play a significant role in guiding children through their social and emotional challenges and triumphs.”
