‘Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl’ Wins 2 BAFTA Awards
Don’t mess with Aardman Animations in the United Kingdom. That was today’s key lesson as Nick Park and Merlin Crossingham’s Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl came up with not one but two big wins at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts Awards (BAFTAs).
The most recent Wallace and Gromit adventure won both the BAFTA for animated film as well as a new category, children’s and family film. It was the sixth and seventh wins for the iconic British man and dog who have a perfect track record at the BAFTAs, having won an award each previous time they’ve appeared in a short or feature.
The four nominees in the BAFTA animated feature category are all current Academy Award nominees as well. Dreamworks’ The Wild Robot, which has emerged as the Oscar favorite, had a disappointing evening, losing all three of its nominations. Flow, which has also had a tremendous awards run, came up short in its two nominations.
The evening was a clean sweep for stop-motion animation. In the British animated short category, Nina Gantz’s creepy film Wander to Wonder won the BAFTA against José Prats’ Adiós and Robin Shaw’s Mog’s Christmas. Wander to Wonder, which is nominated for an Academy Award, also won best short subject at the Annie Awards last weekend.
The award for special visual effects was presented to Dune: Part Two.
