Student Animation From USC, Calarts, Ringling, and MOPA Win Student Academy Awards
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced the winners of the 45th Student Academy Awards.
The winners of the competition live were chosen from a total of 1,582 entries, both animation and live action, from 278 domestic and 122 international colleges and universities. The winning students will spend a week in Los Angeles taking part in industry activities that will culminate in the awards ceremony on Thursday, October 11, at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills. The medal placements – gold, silver and bronze – in the award categories will be announced at the ceremony.
In the international animation category, the French school MOPA (formerly Supinfocom Arles) won a Student Academy Award for the first time. The entire team of five artists is being recognized with the award for the first time; previously the limit had been two directors that could be honored per film.
