‘Helluva Boss,’ Zach King Take Top Animation, VFX Honors At 2023 Streamy Awards
The 2023 Streamy Awards were distributed over the weekend, honoring the best in online content creation.
This year’s award for best animated IP went to Helluva Boss, another demonic property from Hazbin Hotel creator Vivienne Medrano, online alias Vivziepop. Helluva Boss unspools at the I.M.P. (Immediate Murder Professionals), an imp-run murder-for-hire company based in hell. The series is produced by Spindlehorse Toons, an online artist collective founded by Medrano. Each video is posted to the Vivziepop Youtube channel, which crossed one billion views earlier this year.
Medrano graduated from New York’s School of Visual Arts (SVA), where she studied traditional animation. Her work is heavily influenced by music, which is apparent in almost anything published on her channel.
The 2023 craft award for visual and special effects went to Zach King, who rose to internet celebrity by making short videos in which he appears to do impossible magic tricks. This was King’s third Streamy; he won best visual and special effects in 2021 and the Vine Creativity Award in 2014.
King studied cinema and media arts at Biola University, graduating in 2012. While still a student, he began making Youtube tutorial videos for editing software and quickly became popular among other vfx artists. In 2011, he had his first viral hit with Jedi Kittens and has continued to impress the internet with charming and surprising videos since. His Youtube channel has more than six billion views.
Streamy Award nominees and winners are picked by an independent judging body of creators, executives, and other experts in the online video industry.
