Top Story: Despite A Large Number Of Detractors, Animation Guild Members Ratify New Contract

The 38th edition of Cinanima, Europe’s third-oldest animation festival, took place November 10-16 in Espinho, Portugal.

The jury, comprised of Afonso Cruz (Portugal), Katariina Lillqvist (Finland), Rao Heidmets (Estonia), Olivier Vandersleyen (Belgium) and Bruno Collet (France), awarded the grand prize to the 14-minute Portuguese short Soot (Fuligem) by David Doutel and Vasco Sá. Exploring the historical importance of railways in Portugal through the eyes of one person, the just-completed short also won a best directing award for its directors.

Brazilian filmmaker Alê Abreu picked up both the best feature and audience award for his film Boy and the World.
