‘The Jungle Book’ Wins Best VFX, ‘Zootopia’ Best Animated Feature At Critics’ Choice Awards
Disney films dominated the vfx and feature animation categories at the 22nd annual Critics’ Choice Awards tonight.
The Jungle Book remake won the best visual effects honor. It is the first major win for The Jungle Book in a visual effects category this award season. The vfx work in the film were led by MPC and Weta Digital. The other nominees in the vfx category were A Monster Calls, Arrival, Doctor Strange, and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
The Critics’ Choice has presented a vfx award since 2009. In this period, the vfx winner at the Critics’ Choice has gone on to win the Oscar for vfx four out of seven times.
Disney’s Zootopia, directed by Byron Howard and Rich Moore, took home the prize in the best animated feature category. The nominees in the category are Finding Dory, Kubo and the Two Strings, Moana, The Red Turtle, Trolls, and Zootopia.
The winner of the Critics’ Choice Award for best animated feature has gone on to win the Academy Award for best animated feature 12 out of the last 15 years.
