Cartoon d’Or 2016 Nominees Announced for Best European Animated Short
The pan-European Cartoon d’Or award, which honors the best European animated short of the year, has announced the nominees for its 2016 honor:
- Alike by Daniel Martínez Lara and Rafa Cano Méndez (Spain)
- Machine by Sunit Parekh (Denmark)
- Peripheria by David Coquard-Dassault (France)
- Under Your Fingers by Marie-Christine Courtès (France)
- Yùl and the Snake by Gabriel Harel (France)
The Cartoon d’Or, which has been presented annually since 1991, aims to promote up-and-coming European animation talent while building a link between filmmakers and the industry. Twenty-three short films qualified for this year’s Cartoon d’Or by having earlier won a prize at a partner European animation festival. The finalists were selected by a jury composed of producer Clément Calvet (Superprod, France), director Mark Burton (Aardman Animations, UK) and director Alessandro Rak (MAD Entertainment, Italy).
The winner will be announced at a ceremony on September 15 during Cartoon Forum pitching and co-production event in Toulouse, France. Cartoon Brew will be reporting from the event for the first time this year.
Last year’s winner of the Cartoon d’Or, Daisy Jacobs’ The Bigger Picture, was also an Academy Award nominee for best animated short.
