Award season in animation means not just the Oscars, but also the Annies and the VES Awards. Both of the awards officially opened their call for entries this week.

The 44th edition of the Annie Awards, presented by ASIFA-Hollywood, will take place on Saturday, February 4, 2017, at UCLA’s Royce Hall in Los Angeles. The Annies will be presented in 9 production categories and 22 individual achievement categories. Additionally, up to five honorary awards may be granted for lifetime accomplishments, philanthropy, technical advances, special achievement, and meritorious service.

The Annies Awards have raised their submission fee to $125 per submission. The deadline to receive entries is October 31 by 5pm Pacific time.

Meanwhile, the 15th annual VES Awards, presented by the Visual Effects Society, are scheduled to take place on Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills. The VES Awards will honor achievement in visual effects and animation across 24 different categories.

Entries may be submitted via the VES web site, which also contains complete rules and procedures.

The entry fee for each submission is $400, though student filmmakers may submit in the student category for only $25. Submissions will open on October 10, and the deadline to submit is November 30 by 11:59pm Pacific time.
