2019 Juried Emmy Winners: ‘Love, Death & Robots’ And ‘Age of Sail’ Win Big
The Television Academy has announced the juried award winners for the 71st Emmy Awards in the animation, interactive media, and motion design categories. The awards will be presented at the 2019 Creative Arts Awards ceremonies on Saturday, September 14.
In the individual achievement for animation, all eight winners came from projects that were presented on Netflix and Youtube. It’s quite the change from last year when all six individual achievement honors went to artists working on projects for legacy media brands.
Three of the animation awards were presented to Age of Sail (pictured, top right) the John Kahrs-directed 360/vr film for the recently-shuttered Google Spotlight Stories. The Netflix adult animated anthology Love, Death & Robots, also came up big, winning four individual achievement awards. Albert Mielgo’s short from the anthology series, “The Witness” (pictured, top left) which won two individual achievement honors, is also nominated in the Short Form Animated Program category of the upcoming Emmys.

Juried categories require all entrants to be screened by a panel of professionals in the appropriate peer group. As a consequence, there are no nominees but instead a one-step evaluation and voting procedure. Deliberations include open discussions of each entrant’s work with a thorough review of the merits of awarding the Emmy.
The 2019 Creative Arts Emmy Awards presentation will be held at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles beginning at 5pm on Saturday, September 14, and Sunday, September 15, and will air Saturday, September 21, at 8pm ET/PT on FXX.
