Production Workers At Bento Box Entertainment Now Represented By The Animation Guild
The Animation Guild (TAG), IATSE Local 839, has confirmed that a group of production workers at Fox Corporation-owned Bento Box Entertainment is now officially represented by the organization.
The bargaining unit of 100 workers was voluntarily recognized pending a card count, known as a Card Check Recognition Agreement. An independent arbitrator then certified a majority status on September 30. The new unit includes workers from 28 different positions at Bento Box; those positions include production coordinator, audio coordinator, development and design supervisor, digital supervisor, and writers assistant.
The news was first announced in a tweet from the TAG account which read:
More great news to share! Production workers @BentoBoxEnt are now officially represented by the #AnimationGuild. Let’s show them a big welcome to the #Union! Congrats!
It’s been a big year for employees at Bento Box Entertainment. In May, pre- and post-production editorial workers unionized with The Editors Guild. Artists and writers at the studio were already covered by TAG.
Bento Box workers’ organization efforts are also representative of a larger unionizing movement across the industry, particularly in regard to production workers. Workers from numerous studios across the country have voted in favor of unionizing with TAG, including those at The Simpsons, Family Guy, American Dad, Solar Opposites, Titmouse LA, and most recently Stephen Colbert Presents Tooning Out the News.
