What is the most valuable piece of artistic advice you have ever received, and from who?
“During my freshmen year at CalArts (and prior to my experience at Cartoon Network), my character design teacher Joe Pitt would always talk about how important it is to take the time to draw and write and create for yourself if you wanna stay sane in the industry. I understood it in a pretty surface-ey way at the time, but once I started working and it actually became applicable to my life, I finally saw the truth in what he’d said! It’s simple, but yeah, at the end of the day, it’s 100% ok to just be drawing for you; not for your boss, not to improve–just for you.”
