WHAT IS THE MOST VALUABLE PIECE OF ARTISTIC ADVICE YOU HAVE EVER RECEIVED, AND FROM WHO?
It was: “Maybe you should add some eyelashes or something like that.” It was long ago when I was in art school. I’d been working on one of my first personal pieces. The topic was “imaginary still-life.” I intended to depict the close-up of a human eye with the skull of a horse mirrored in it. Alas, I had not enough skills at that time for such a complicated idea, so it turned out that my piece without verbal instructions looked completely abstract. That time I ignored the advice given to me by my art teacher, Alexandr Simuni, but I later realized that it was the right solution. I always recall that case now when confronting the problem of illegibility in my artwork.
