Top Story: ‘The Wild Robot’ And ‘Arcane’ Lead 52nd Annie Award Nominations

As part of its latest update, Procreate, a popular iPad illustration app, has added new animation features.

This is the first time the app includes animation capabilities, and although they are very basic, it’s a welcome addition for animators who already use Procreate as part of their workflow.

The new update offers layer export options through which users can export layers as a folder of web-ready PNG files, multiple pages in a PDF, or frames of a looping animated GIF.

The ability to export layers as GIFs brings simple animation to Procreate, with variable frame rates from 0.1 to 60 frames per second, as well as optional background transparency, and the ability to export full-size or web-ready GIFs.

For now, animation capabilities are rudimentary on Procreate, but the introduction of animation tools will be welcome for anyone who needs to do a quick animation and could point to further development of animation options on the app.

Existing users can access this update for free, while new customers can purchase the app for $9.99.
