As ‘One Piece Film Red’ Dominates The Japanese Box Office, Crunchyroll Launches North American Ticket Sales

North American ticket pre-sales are now open for One Piece Film Red, which will release in theaters in the U.S. and Canada on November 4.

However, prior to its North American launch, Animation is Film announced today that it will host the world premiere of the film’s English-language dub in Los Angeles on Saturday, October 22.

One Piece Film Red has been nothing short of a phenomenon since hitting theaters on August 6 in Japan. The film has topped the box office each week since its release, and as reported by Crunchyroll, the film is currently the sixth all-time highest-grossing anime film in Japan and eleventh among all films.

Over the course of its nine weeks in cinemas, One Piece has made 16.2 billion yen ($116.24 million), and only needs another 1.1 billion yen ($7.6 million) in sales to pass Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets for tenth on the all-time box office list.

The One Piece Film Red official synopsis reads:

Uta—the most beloved singer in the world whose voice has been described as “otherworldly”—is renowned for concealing her own identity when performing. Now, for the first time ever, she will reveal herself to the world at a live concert. With the Navy watching closely, the venue fills with Uta’s fans—including excited pirates and the Straw Hats led by Luffy, who simply came to enjoy her sonorous performance—all eagerly awaiting the voice that the whole world has been waiting for to resound. The story begins with the shocking revelation that she is the enigmatic Shanks’ daughter.

One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda is executive producer of One Piece Film Red, which is directed by Goro Taniguchi (One Piece Defeat Him! The Pirate Ganzack!) and written by Tsutomu Kuroiwa (One Piece Film: Gold).

Crunchyroll, which is handling distribution, also unveiled the film’s English-language voice cast, which features popular Youtuber AmaLee doing Uta’s dialogue and Japanese singer Ado performing the songs. The film will be available both subtitled and dubbed.
