Top Story: ‘The Wild Robot’ And ‘Arcane’ Lead 52nd Annie Award Nominations

If all you know about Jibjab is their personalized e-greeting cards and occasional satirical viral videos, get ready to experience a new side of the company—one that shows they can produce children’s entertainment at the highest level.

Over the last few years, Jibjab has been building out its multiplatform children’s interactive learning brand Storybots through apps, e-books, and online videos. The Storybots are now set to receive their biggest audience yet when Netflix launches the original series Ask the Storybots. Here’s the trailer released today:

Six half-hour episodes will start streaming on Netflix next Friday, August 12, in English-speaking markets, including the U.S., Canada, New Zealand, and Australia. In each episode of the mixed-media series, which utilizes drawn animation, CG, stop motion, and live-action, the Storybots quintet—Beep, Bing, Bang, Boop, and Bo—embark on an adventure to find the answer to a simple question, like “Why is the sky blue?”

“After my brother and I both became fathers, we saw how difficult it was to find quality kids’ entertainment that was fun for grown-ups, too,” said Gregg Spiridellis, CEO and co-founder of Jibjab and show co-creator with his brother, Evan. “We created Storybots to mix learning and fun for kids while offering a guilt-free screen-time experience for parents and teachers.”

Each episode includes live-action appearances by special guest stars. Below is the list of episodes and guests for the first season:

  • “How Does Night Happen?” with Jay Leno
  • “How Do Airplanes Fly?” with Kevin Smith
  • “Why Do I Have To Brush My Teeth?” with Whoopi Goldberg
  • “Why Is The Sky Blue?” with Riki Lindhome and Kate Micucci of Garfunkel and Oates
  • “Where Do French Fries Come From?” with ‘Weird Al’ Yankovic
  • “Where Does Rain Come From?” with Tim Meadows and Chris Parnell
