Bugs Bunny to Return in Direct-to-Video ‘Rabbits Run’
Bugs Bunny and his Looney Tunes cohort are set to star in a new straight-to-DVD full-length film this summer.
Looney Tunes: Rabbits Run will be released by Warner Bros. Home Entertainment (WBHE) on August 4.
Animation veteran Jeff Siergey, a supervising animator on Space Jam and lead animator on Looney Tunes: Back in Action but more recently a director on The Looney Tunes Show,, will direct. Voice actors Jeff Bergman (Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck), Maurice LaMarche (Yosemite Sam), and Fred Armisen (Speedy Gonzales) will reprise their roles from the TV series.
The film will find Bugs Bunny as a New York City cab driver—which, depending on your view of New York cabbies, is either pretty rich or perfectly appropriate considering Bugs’s navigational ineptitude—who gets in over his head when he picks up amateur perfume maker Lola Bunny.
According to the presser:
“Lola, in one of her attempts to create the next big fragrance, has inadvertently invented an invisibility spray, and now the whole world is on their tails to steal her precious concoction! On the run to Paris, Bugs and Lola must outsmart everyone from government officials, to Lola’s greedy department store boss, Giovanni and even Yosemite Sam, all of whom are after Lola’s ‘scent-sational’ invisibility spray. Will Bugs help Lola thwart the bad guys and help her realize her dream of launching her own signature fragrance line?”
“Looney Tunes is a powerful brand among consumers and it’s one of our most important franchises,” said WBHE’s vice president of family and animation marketing, Mary Ellen Thomas. “Looney Tunes: Rabbits Run is a clever, entertaining new story that’s perfect for family viewing.”
The last Looney Tunes direct-to-video feature, Bah, Humduck! A Looney Tunes Christmas, was released nine years ago.
