Top Story: ‘The Wild Robot’ And ‘Arcane’ Lead 52nd Annie Award Nominations

Feudal Japan has a new visitor: Batman. Warner Bros. Japan has released two new trailers for its anime interpretation of the Dark Knight, Batman Ninja.

The hybrid 2d/3d film is directed by Junpei Mizusaki, whose studio Kamikaze Douga is producing the animation. Other key figures on the production are writer Kazuki Nakashima, character designer Takashi Okazaki (creator of Afro Samurai), and music by Yugo Kanno. Screenwriters Leo Chu and Eric Garcia (Afro Samurai, Supah Ninjas) are writing the English-language adaptation.

This marks the second Batman project initiated by Japanese studios, following 2008’s anthology feature Batman: Gotham Knight.

Batman Ninja will be released in Japanese theaters next year. In the United States, a home entertainment release is scheduled, although a few theatrical dates through a distributor like Fathom seem likely as well.
